Rotterdam is renowned for its modern architecture, but many friends had complained that it is grey, cold, depressing..

.. it was perhaps because of the utterly summer weather (even the Rotterdam Marathon had to be canceled due to the heat), but my general impression was positive..

..indeed, some places feel soulless..

..but on the whole I find Rotterdam way better then Berlin.

We also took a boat trip to the port..

..remarkable..

..but this was the only really big ship we saw..

We went to Rotterdam with my friend also to take part in some debating competition..

..it in addition means a lot of interesting people (and free alcohol). Here BBQ in some kind of squat..
